The Sailor’s Knot
A Seafarer’s Dice Game
Inspired by the game of Shut the Box, popular with sailors since the early 1800s, The Sailor’s Knot is an entertaining family game for any number of players.
In the course of daily working life, sailors would have had to employ great skill in tying a wide variety of practical knots. It is not surprising therefore to find that knotting also flourished as an art form, and was a popular recreational activity aboard sailing ships of the 18th and 19th centuries.
In The Sailor’s Knot, you must throw two dice several times in an attempt to ‘tie up’ all nine of the sailor’s knots illustrated on the game board.
In addition to providing a fascinating introduction to the art of knotting, The Sailor’s Knot is a competitive and entertaining family game.
Although currently out of print, as part of our Vintage Collection, we are happy to be able to offer for sale a few, good condition 1996 copies of The Sailor’s Knot.
