The Celtic Game
£7.00
from The Howel Dha
Called Tawlbwrdd in Welsh, this ancient Celtic game is mentioned in The Laws of Howel Dha (C9th) and appears to have been based on games introduced to Wales by invading Norsemen.
The word Tawlbwrrd translates literally as throw-board and suggests that dice may have been used when playing the game. This makes it an interesting and unusual variation on what is known of Hnefatafl, the Viking game it most resembles.
As part of our Vintage Collection, we offer for sale some original, first edition sets of The Celtic Game, which was produced exclusively for Past Times in 1997.
